Functional Purpose¶
Window/Door Detailing - Provides advanced detailing options for window and door openings including frame specifications, sealant details, flashing, and installation requirements.
Key Functions:
Frame specification (aluminum, steel, wood types)
Jamb details (depth, returns, reveals)
Sill configuration (sloped, drip edge, drainage)
Head details (lintel cover, flashing)
Installation notes (anchoring, shimming, caulking)
Accessory scheduling (frames, hardware, sealants)

Typical Workflow¶
1. User has created opening in wall_dlg
2. User clicks detail button on opening
3. wd_dlg opens for selected opening
4. User specifies frame:
• Type: Aluminum storefront
• Profile: 2" x 4.5" system
• Finish: Dark bronze anodized
• Glazing: 1" insulated glass
5. User configures jamb:
• Reveal depth: 1" (shadow line)
• Return: Chamfered 1/2"
• Frame anchor: Through-bolt every 24"
6. User details sill:
• Slope: 15° outward (water runoff)
• Drip edge: 1/2" projection
• Weep holes: 3/8" @ 24" o.c.
• Sealant: Polyurethane 1/2" joint
7. User adds head detail:

Installation Details¶
Anchor Spacing¶
Frame Attachment:
Typical anchor spacing:
- Through-bolts: 24" o.c. maximum
- Expansion anchors: 18" o.c.
- Corners: Within 4"-6" of corners
Wind load areas:
- Reduce spacing to 16"-18" o.c.
- Increase anchor size (#10 vs #8)
Edge distance:
- Minimum 3" from panel edges
- Avoid rebar conflicts
Sealant Joints¶
Joint Sizing:
Width-to-Depth Ratio:
Ideal: 2:1 (width:depth)
Example: 1/2" wide joint ? 1/4" deep
Joint width sizing:
Movement: ±25% (standard)
1/2" joint accommodates: ±1/8" movement
Backer rod:
- Closed-cell foam
- Diameter = joint width + 25%
- Supports sealant, controls depth
Flashing Details¶
Head Flashing:
Purpose: Prevent water from entering at lintel
Extend: 6" beyond opening each side
Slope: Outward toward exterior (water runoff)
Seal: At panel face and frame top
Through-wall flashing:
- Full width of opening + 12"
- Turned up at jambs 6"
- Laps with membrane system
User Example¶
Scenario: 4’×6’ aluminum storefront window
1. Opening: 4'×6' in wall panel
2. Frame: Aluminum storefront, 2"×4" profile, dark bronze
3. Jambs:
• Reveal: 1" (creates shadow line)
• Return: 1/2" chamfer
• Anchors: 1/2" expansion bolts @ 24" o.c.
4. Sill:
• Slope: 15° outward
• Drip edge: 1" projection with 1/4" groove
• Weeps: 3/8" @ 24" o.c.
• Sealant: Polyurethane, 1/2" joint
5. Head:
• Reveal: 1" (matches jambs)
• Flashing: Membrane, extends 6" each side
• Sealant: 1/2" joint with backer rod
