Edge Chamfer/Bevel Configuration
Configure panel edge chamfers and bevels with v7.0 AI-powered chamfer optimization, 3D preview, and automated placement for architectural appearance and edge protection.
v7.0 Enhancements¶
New Features:
? AI chamfer suggestions (optimal size for panel type)
? 3D edge preview (interactive visualization)
? Automatic chamfer placement (all edges, selected edges, corners only)
? Cost impact calculator (chamfer vs square edge)
? Formwork difficulty rating (fabrication complexity)
Typical Workflow (v7.0)¶
1. User configures 12'×10'×6" wall panel
2. User opens ch_dlg (edge treatment)
3. v7.0 AI analyzes:
"Exterior architectural panel detected"
"Recommend: 3/4" × 45° chamfer all edges"
"Benefit: Reduces spalling, improves appearance"
"Cost: +$2.50/LF × 44 LF = +$110"
4. 3D preview shows chamfered edges
5. User can adjust size, angle interactively
6. Accept: Chamfers added to all edges
Chamfer Types¶
Standard Chamfers¶
45° Chamfer (Most Common):
Size: 1/2", 3/4", 1" (dimension of triangle)
Angle: 45° (equal legs)
Use: General edge protection
Cost: Moderate
30° Bevel:
Angle: 30° (shallow)
Use: Drainage edges, subtle detail
Cost: Same as 45°
Bullnose (Rounded):
Radius: 1/2", 3/4", 1"
Use: High-end architectural
Cost: +50% (custom form liner)
AI Recommendations¶
Panel Type ? Chamfer:
Exterior architectural: 3/4" × 45° all edges
Interior partition: 1/2" × 45° or none
Parking structure: 1" × 45° (heavy duty)
Roof panel: 1/2" top edges only
Foundation: None (below grade)
AI selects based on:
- Panel location (interior/exterior)
- Finish level (architectural class)
- Exposure conditions
- Budget constraints
Edge Selection¶
Chamfer Placement:
All edges (perimeter chamfer)
Top edge only (parapet, architectural)
Bottom edge only (drip edge)
Vertical edges (left/right)
Corners only (4 corners, 8 edges each)
Selected edges (custom pattern)
3D Interactive Selection:
User clicks edges on 3D model:
- Click = toggle chamfer on/off
- Drag = adjust chamfer size
- Right-click = chamfer options
Visual feedback immediate
See result before committing
Cost Analysis (v7.0)¶
Chamfer vs Square:
12'×10' panel, 44 LF perimeter
Square edge: $0 (standard)
1/2" chamfer: +$1.50/LF = +$66
3/4" chamfer: +$2.50/LF = +$110
1" chamfer: +$3.50/LF = +$154
Bullnose: +$5.00/LF = +$220
Is it worth it?
Chamfer prevents:
- Edge spalling: Repair $50-100/location
- Aesthetic issues: Rejection, rework
- Long-term deterioration
Typical: 2-3 spalls over panel life
Repair cost: $100-300
Chamfer ROI: Positive!
Formwork Complexity¶
AI Difficulty Rating:
Square edge: Easy ?
1/2" chamfer: Easy ?
3/4" chamfer: Moderate ??
1" chamfer: Moderate ??
Bullnose: Difficult ????
Rating affects:
- Fabrication time
- Form cost
- Quality control
- Lead time
AI warns if too complex for shop capabilities
Integration¶
3D Model Update:
Chamfers immediately visible in 3D
Affects:
- Edge geometry
- Reveal shadows
- Connection details
- Form liner specification
Best Practices (v7.0)¶
When to Chamfer:
? Exterior panels (weather protection)
? Architectural concrete (appearance)
? Exposed edges (public visibility)
? Parking structures (impact protection)
When Square Edge OK:
? Interior partitions
? Hidden edges
? Budget constraints
? Below grade
Use AI Suggestions:
? Let AI recommend (considers all factors)
? Review cost impact (budget approval)
? Check 3D preview (verify appearance)
Enhancement Status: ? v7.0 ENHANCED [4/38]
