Monumental Tilt-Up Buildings — Reference List¶
A working reference of 100 notable tilt-up concrete projects for marketing, demo, and customer-discovery use. Anchored by the ACI Monumental Tilt-Ups framing and the TCA Top-10 record-holders, extended with historic origins (Aiken, Gill, Schindler), international landmarks, and architecturally significant US projects.
Required anchor: Chapel of St. Ignatius (Steven Holl, Seattle, 1997) — included as row 1.
Photos. The Reference column links to a page that contains images for that project — TCA project profiles, Wikipedia articles, ArchDaily case studies, ENR features, and contractor portfolios all carry photography. Hotlinking 100 external images directly into this doc was rejected as fragile (URL rot, performance). The current convention is “click through to the reference page to see pictures.”
Field conventions. Where contractor, address, square footage, or panel count is not publicly verifiable from a TCA project profile, ENR article, or contractor portfolio, the cell is em-dashed (—) rather than guessed. About a dozen rows have full multi-field coverage; the remainder are scaffolds that future research (TCA project-profile scraping, ACI video transcripts) can fill in.
Tier legend.
Architectural — design press, AIA recognition, or institutional landmark.
Historic — pre-1930 tilt-up origin projects (Aiken / Gill / Schindler).
Record — TCA Top-10 record holder (tallest, heaviest, widest, largest by area, tallest cantilever, most panels, largest footprint).
International — non-US landmark.

Coverage notes¶
Roughly 70 of the 100 rows now carry at least one verified Reference URL — most often the TCA project profile, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association Top-10 category page, or a Wikipedia article. About a dozen rows have full multi-field enrichment (1, 15, 19, 20, 23, 27, 45, 46, 49, 51, 56, 59, 78, 79, 80, 91, 95, 96, 99, 100). Rows where I could not verify a public-facing reference are em-dashed in the Reference column; the underlying claim (e.g. “726 panels at Winter Garden Village”) still came from TCA Top-10 summary listings but the project-profile page wasn’t surfaced by search.
Source priorities¶
ACI Monumental Tilt-Ups YouTube series (primary framing anchor; specific episode catalog TBD — re-anchoring the list against the ACI playlist would harden the international and architectural rows).
Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) Top-10 records: tallest panel, heaviest panel, widest panel, largest panel by area, tallest cantilever, and largest floor area.
TCA Achievement Awards annual catalog and individual project profiles (consistent URL pattern:
tilt-up.org/projects/profile/?id=NNNN).ENR (Engineering News-Record) project profiles for the mega-warehouse and data-center entries.
AIA Honor / 25-Year Award archive and Steven Holl Architects monograph for the St. Ignatius row.
National Register of Historic Places, HABS, and Library of Congress photo archives for the Gill / Schindler / Aiken historic rows.
Concrete NZ and Concrete Institute of Australia for ANZ entries.
Contractor portfolios: Suntec Concrete, TAS Commercial Concrete, Willmeng, Baugh Construction, Fullmer (Oltmans), Harvey Builders, Okland, DPR, Coastal Construction, GE Johnson, Beedie, Tilt Wall Ontario, Citadel Contractors, Mortenson, C.W. Driver, JTM Construction, Abbott Construction.
How to extend¶
TCA project-profile scraping. The TCA profile pages use a consistent template with contractor, square footage, panel count, year, and location all in named fields. A targeted scrape against
tilt-up.org/projects/profile/?id=NNNN(iterating known IDs) would fill in most of the em-dashed cells and surface a TCA URL for the ~30 rows currently lacking one.ACI Monumental Tilt-Ups playlist. Anchoring against the specific ACI YouTube playlist (URL or presenter name) would harden the international and architectural rows and likely surface several entries not currently on the list.
Image embedding. If the marketing team wants a true photo-driven gallery (versus the click-through reference model used here), the recommended path is downloading Wikipedia Commons + TCA-licensed images into
docs/source/_static/tilt-up/and referencing them locally. Inline external image hotlinking was rejected as fragile.
