Move or rename a project¶
Rename the current project or re-point its folder to a new location on disk — with the same dialog that created it.
A project is its folder. Everything ConstructiVision keeps for a project lives in one
directory: the panel drawings, their revision backups, and the project data file
(project name.cvp). The project’s name is the folder’s name — it appears in dialog titles and
reports, and its initials seed the default panel-mark prefix. Change Project Folder Location
(toolbar or CV menu; also the CV-PROJECT-FOLDER command) reopens the project name / folder
dialog for the current project so the name and the location can be redone with the mouse — for
example after realizing the project was created in the wrong place.
Change the name or the location¶
Open a drawing that belongs to the project — the command works on the current project.
Click Change Project Folder Location. The New Project dialog reopens, pre-filled with the current project name, and the folder path underneath is derived automatically (project root + project name).
To rename, type the new name — the folder path follows as you type. The name is appended to the path automatically; don’t retype it at the end of the path (a doubled final folder is collapsed rather than nested, so the mistake is harmless).
To move, edit the path directly or click Browse… — the dialog closes, a folder picker opens (double-click the destination folder, then click Save; the file name itself is ignored), and the dialog reopens pre-filled at the new location with your typed name intact.
Confirm with OK. ConstructiVision creates the new folder — including any missing parent folders — verifies it actually exists, and reports project folder now: … at the command line, followed by how many drawings stay in the old folder and where to move them.
If the location can’t be created — a write-protected folder such as anything under Program Files, a full disk — the command says so in a message box and lets you choose a different directory instead of continuing against a folder that isn’t there.
What the command does — and what it deliberately doesn’t¶
Creates the new folder and re-points the session. New drawings, panel saves, and reports for this project now land in the new location.
Stamps the new location into the drawing’s project record, saved with the drawing — so even a drawing you haven’t saved yet still knows which project folder it belongs to the next time ConstructiVision needs it.
Rewrites the project data file — a fresh project name.cvp is assembled at the new location, and it keeps re-assembling automatically as you work on panels there.
It does not move your files. The command is deliberately non-destructive: nothing is copied, moved, or deleted. Existing panel drawings — and their revision backups — stay where they were saved.
Move the drawings yourself¶
After re-pointing, move the project’s existing files into the new folder with Windows Explorer (close them in AutoCAD first):
the panel and site drawings (.dwg);
their revision backups (the .bak… siblings — see Track revisions);
the project’s support files (everything else in the old project folder).
Then open a panel from the new location and carry on — the project data file picks the panels back up as each one is next confirmed.
Notes¶
The folder name is the project name. Dialog titles, reports, and the default panel-mark prefix all derive from the last folder component — renaming the folder renames the project.
A drawing opened from the old folder still belongs to the old location. A saved drawing derives its project from the directory it sits in, so a panel left behind in the old folder opens as a project at the old path. Move the files before continuing work on them.
Pick a writable home. Project folders belong under a normal user-writable directory (e.g. Documents), not under Program Files — modern Windows write-protects the latter, and the command will refuse it loudly rather than fail silently.
