405 — Importing a DXF¶
Bringing drawing geometry in, rather than a ConstructiVision file.
Note
This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.
Where it is¶
File → Import DXF… It imports into the project you have open, unlike Import CV File, which can bring in a whole new one.
It expects AutoCAD R2000¶
AC1015 — the same format the panel export writes. So a DXF that went out of cv-web comes back in, and a DXF saved from AutoCAD in R2000 is understood.
It reads layers by name — including AutoCAD’s¶
This is the part worth knowing before you clean up a drawing for import.

cv-cad’s own lowercase names |
Geometry on a layer it does not recognise is not imported as a feature — so the layer names in your DXF decide what arrives, more than the geometry does.
You do not have to rename anything coming from AutoCAD. The importer already speaks that vocabulary. That is the same shared naming the panel DXF export writes, working in the other direction.
Read the summary before you accept it¶
Like the CV file import, it reads the file and reports what it found — and warns rather than guessing. With no file chosen the button says Close, not Import, so it cannot be pressed into importing nothing.
What to take away¶
R2000 in, layers decide what arrives, and cv-cad’s own layer names are understood without renaming. If something did not come through, look at the layer it was on first.
