210 — Rough openings, in cv-web¶
A framed opening — the hole a door or a window frame goes into.
Warning
This is a cv-web capability today, and you cannot reach it in ConstructiVision for AutoCAD. Rough openings work exactly as described below in the browser. AutoCAD still contains the Rough Opening dialog, but its tile was removed from the panel dialog and no menu item or command opens it — so there is currently no way in.
Use this lesson for cv-web. In AutoCAD, the nearest equivalent is a Standard Opening or a Recess/Blockout, depending on whether the hole goes through.
This is one of three places the two products diverge — the others being Top steps and Footing shapes. Tracked as CV-2037.
Note
This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.
Where it is¶
Program Options → Rough Openings. The title tells you the limit up front: Rough Openings (4 max).
Start from a common size¶
Open Common RO Sizes — it sits collapsed at the top of the dialog — and click a preset. It becomes an opening; you do not type four numbers to get a standard door.
Where it lands is chosen for you and worth knowing: centred across the panel, with its top edge flush to the top of the panel. That is the usual case for a door or a tall window, so the common case costs one click and the unusual one costs an edit.
Then move it¶
Each opening carries its own width, height and position. Two Ctr buttons sit beside the position fields:
Ctr on X |
centre it across the panel |
Ctr on Y |
centre it up the panel |
Useful more often than it sounds — an opening that should be visually centred is otherwise an arithmetic problem every time the panel width changes.
Four is the limit¶
Four rough openings per panel. If you need a fifth, it is a different panel — and it is better to find that out here than after laying out a whole elevation.
It is checked against the corpus¶
Rough openings are one of the features the corpus review watches. An opening far outside what the corpus has seen gets a marker — not a block, just a prompt to look again before it is cast.
What to take away¶
Pick a common size and it lands where such openings usually go. Move it if yours is different. Four per panel, and the review is watching.
