404 — Importing a CV file¶
One door for everything ConstructiVision writes — and for the files that come out of AutoCAD.
Note
This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.
Where it is¶
File → Import CV File…
It takes eight kinds of file¶
You do not have to work out which importer you need. Pick the file and it works out the rest:
|
a whole project — what 401 exports |
|
a template |
|
a single panel |
|
a site plan |
|
extraction outputs |
It tells you what it found before it commits¶
The dialog reads the file first and reports what is in it — how many panels, whether it will land as a new project or merge into this one — and it warns rather than guessing when something does not line up.
That order matters. An importer that silently did its best would leave you comparing panel counts afterwards to work out what happened.
Files that came from AutoCAD¶
This is the arrival point for work done in cv-cad, and worth setting expectations for:
A .cvp written by cv-web restores completely. A .cvp written by AutoCAD is a view of
the drawing, and some detail does not survive the trip — see
401. Weld connections are the known one.
So if a panel arrives with fewer features than you drew, the import is not where it went wrong. The file did not carry them. The drawing is still the record.
What to take away¶
One menu item takes every format the product writes. It reads the file and tells you what it found before anything changes — so read that summary, especially on a file that came out of AutoCAD.
