Companion video versions

Which version of ConstructiVision each tutorial video shows.

A tutorial video is a recording of how the product behaved at a particular version. Dialogs gain fields, defaults change, and drawings pick up new detail as ConstructiVision develops — so a video recorded against an older build can differ in small ways from what is in front of you.

This page tells you exactly which build each video shows, so you can judge whether a difference is a mistake on your part or simply a version gap. If your ConstructiVision version is newer than the one listed and something on screen does not match, trust the product and the written lesson — the written tutorials are kept current continuously, while videos are re-recorded in batches.

Note

Browser lessons work differently. Some tutorials teach cv-web, the browser app at simplestruct.com, rather than the AutoCAD plugin. Those rows read cv-web (Web Beta) and Browser — no AutoCAD, because there is no version number for you to check: cv-web updates continuously, and you are always on the current release the moment you load the page. For those videos the recorded date is the useful column — cv-web is in Web Beta, so labels and controls may have moved on since.

The remaining lessons are being recorded in sequence and will be added here as each publishes. Lesson 0 is written-only by design — it covers signing in to AutoCAD, and no tutorial should put credential entry on screen — so it will never have a companion video.

What “recorded against” pins

Every take keeps a full provenance record beside the video (take-manifest.json), not just the version shown above. It captures:

  • the CV version and the exact compiled artifact — the CSV.VLX SHA-256, its build time, and its size, so the precise binary is identifiable rather than merely named;

  • whether the take ran the shipped VLX (what a customer runs) or a source-loaded build;

  • the AutoCAD product version read from the executable itself, not assumed;

  • the repository commit, the choreography manifest’s SHA-256, the lesson page’s git hash, and the starter drawing’s SHA-256.

That combination is what makes a video reproducible and, just as importantly, makes it possible to tell which videos a given change actually invalidates — instead of re-recording the whole library whenever anything moves.

When a video is re-recorded

A video is re-recorded when the product change would visibly mislead a viewer — a dialog gains or loses a field the lesson touches, a default changes, or the drawn result differs. Cosmetic changes that do not affect the lesson’s steps are not grounds for a re-record; the version pin above is there so you can see the gap for yourself rather than having every video chase every release.
