200 — Panel Dimensions & Finished Floor, in cv-web

The cv-web companion to tutorial 100. Same panel, same numbers, in the browser.

If you have done 100 in AutoCAD, you will recognise every value here. That is deliberate: the two products describe the same panel, so the lessons use the same one.

Note

This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.

Before you start

Open cv-web and sign in. Load the ConstructiVision Sample Building sample project from the welcome screen.

Steps

Switch to Panel mode in the top bar. The properties panel on the right is where a panel’s dimensions live.

  1. Set the width. 240 — twenty feet, measured on the panel face.

  2. Set the thickness. 8 — eight inches, the same value tutorial 100 types into Main Panel Details.

  3. Set the bottom elevation. 0 — this panel starts at Finished Floor.

  4. Set the top elevation. 288 — twenty-four feet above Finished Floor.

Height, top elevation and bottom elevation are linked: change any one and cv-web recalculates the others, because a panel’s height is the distance between its two elevations less the thickness of the slab it sits on. That linkage is not a browser convenience — it is the same arithmetic cv-cad does, so the two products cannot drift apart on a panel’s basic dimensions.

Watch the review markers

As you type, a small ● or ▲ may appear beside a value. That is cv-web comparing what you entered against every panel in the corpus:

  • ● — outside the typical range. Hover to read the range and how many panels it was measured from.

  • ▲ — outside every value ever observed.

Neither one stops you. An unusual panel is not a wrong panel, and the marker never blocks an edit — it asks for a second look. The same markers appear on panel weight, on crane and brace load per point, and on embed counts, so an unusual result shows up while you are still drawing rather than at fabrication.

The one genuine difference

Tutorial 100 sets five values in cv-cad. cv-web sets the same five. What it does not have is the datum lens:

cv-cad (tutorial 100)

cv-web

Width

yes

yes

Thickness

yes

yes

Height / top and bottom elevation

yes

yes (linked)

Elevation datum (FF vs Bottom of Panel)

yes

not exposed

cv-cad lets you re-read every elevation on the panel from the bottom of the panel instead of Finished Floor. cv-web has no such switch: every elevation here reads from Finished Floor. For this lesson that is not a limitation, because tutorial 100 works from Finished Floor too — but on a panel whose values were written from the panel bottom, the numbers will not match until you convert them.

Two further differences, both by design:

  • No sheet border. The browser shows the panel, not a shop drawing sheet. Plotting and the title block live on the cv-cad side.

  • No modal dialogs. cv-cad opens Main Panel Details; cv-web edits in place.

Everything the two products both expose should agree exactly. If you find a value that differs between them, that is a defect worth reporting, not a difference to work around.

What to take away

Every later feature is a number measured from a datum. In cv-cad you choose that datum; here it is inherited. Either way, the panel’s own dimensions are what every feature after this one measures against.
