108 — Standard Opening

The everyday hole in a panel. A window, a door opening, a louvre — anything rectangular goes through here.

Two ways in:

  • Main Panel Details → tick Standard Opening

  • ConstructiVision menu → Standard Opening (c:cv-feat-opening)

Eight rows — more than most features carry, because a panel holds more openings than anything else.

Note

This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.

Elev (Btm)

Width, Height

Drip/Future

see below

Elevation is the sill, not the head

The single most common misreading on this dialog. Elev (Btm) is the bottom of the opening, and Height runs up from there:

Elev (Btm) 48" sill at 4'-0"
Height 48" head at 8'-0"

If you are working from an architectural elevation that gives you head heights, subtract the opening height before you type.

Steps

  1. Open Main Panel Details and tick Standard Opening.

  2. Enable row one.

  3. Distance 48, Elev (Btm) 48, Width 48, Height 48 — a four-foot square window, four feet in and four feet up.

  4. OK, then OK.

  5. Reopen from the menu and set Height to 72. The head moves to 10 feet, and it draws on OK.

Two more features in this dialog

you want

set

Future opening

the opening, marked Future — cast the blockout now, cut it later

Arched head

a Radius on the row

Warning

Drip is not working yet (CV-1917). The column reads Drip/Future and the Future half behaves; the drip half does not, so do not rely on it. This lesson does not demonstrate it.

What to take away

Eight rows, and the sill is the datum. Get Elev (Btm) right and everything above it follows; get it wrong and every opening on the panel sits at the wrong height.

Watch the lesson

The recording works a standard opening end to end — the row, the sill datum, and the return through Main Panel Details that commits it to the panel.
