128 — Draw Site Plan

A site drawing keeps its grid lines, wall lines and slab edges as a record inside the drawing. Draw Site Plan reads that record and draws the site plan from it in one click, with no dialog to fill in.

The command line calls the command a site parity test, and it behaves like one: besides drawing, it saves a before-and-after snapshot of the drawing to a temporary folder, so the two states can be compared.

Where it is

  • Toolbar: ConstructiVision Site & Tools → Draw Site Plan. Tooltip: “Draw the site plan from the site NOD”.

  • Typed command: CV-AUTO-SITE-DRAW.

  • Drawing: a site drawing that already carries a site record — grid lines and wall lines entered through the site dialogs, as in Tutorial 10: Site Drawing.

No dialog opens. Everything the command does is reported on the command line.

Try it on the Arlington site (AAAsite1)

The Arlington Airport A site drawing, AAAsite1.dwg, carries 18 numbered grid lines, 5 lettered grid lines and 32 wall runs.

  1. Open AAAsite1.dwg.

  2. Click Draw Site Plan on the ConstructiVision Site & Tools toolbar.

  3. The command line opens with a banner:

    ============================================
      CV-AUTO-SITE-DRAW -- Headless Site Parity Test
    ============================================

    and then names the folder its snapshots go to:

    [CV-AUTO-SITE] Log path: C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Temp\cv-auto-test\
    [CV-AUTO-SITE] csv_headless=T -- all dialogs suppressed

  4. It reads the site record and reports what it found:

    [CV-SITE] bridged compact gx -> nmvar: 18 grid line(s)
    [CV-SITE] bridged compact gy -> ltvar: 5 grid line(s)
    [CV-SITE] bridged compact wl -> wlvar: 32 wall run(s)
    [CV-SITE] sl -> slvar: 64 row(s) in section, none with content -- nothing to bridge

  5. It draws the wall lines first, then the grid and the slab only where their layers are empty:

    [CV-DRAW] walline: 32 run(s) to draw, 0 skipped, 0 incomplete
    [CV-AUTO-SITE] grid present (159 entities) -- not redrawn
    [CV-AUTO-SITE] slab drawn: 0 entities

  6. It finishes by saving the snapshot and reporting the time taken. On Arlington the whole run took about a second:

    [CVSNAP] Total entities: 685
    [CV-AUTO-SITE] Elapsed: 1 seconds

Reading the result

  • walline: 32 run(s) to draw, 0 skipped, 0 incomplete — every wall run in the record was drawn. A non-zero skipped or incomplete count would mean some rows were not drawn.

  • grid present (159 entities) -- not redrawn — the grid layer already had lines on it, so the grid was left alone. The grid and the slab are drawn only when their layers are empty.

  • slab drawn: 0 entities — Arlington’s slab section holds no slab edges (64 row(s) in section, none with content), so there is no slab to draw. This is the site record speaking, not a failure of the command.

  • The snapshot files. The run writes AAAsite1-pre.dxf (before the draw) and AAAsite1-snap.dxf, AAAsite1-snap.dwg and AAAsite1-snap.txt (after) to the cv-auto-test folder named on the first line. They are copies for comparison; your drawing is not changed by them.

  • On a drawing whose plan is already drawn, nothing changes on screen. The wall runs are redrawn in place, not added on top: on AAAsite1 the wall-line layer holds the same 115 objects afterwards (the 32 wall lines and 83 text labels), and all of them are the ones the command drew.

  • Save the drawing if you want to keep the redrawn plan.

What this lesson does not cover

  • Some parts of the site record are not drawn by this command. On Arlington the command line also printed:

    [CSV-ERROR] cv-auto-site: 4 compact section(s) have NO bridge and will draw NOTHING: (ms sc tc rc).

    Grid lines, wall lines and slab edges are drawn; the four sections it names are not. The product reports this as its own limit (the sections have no drawing step yet).

  • Panels. Draw Site Plan draws the plan itself. Placing the panel drawings on it is Attach Panels (Tutorial 11: Attach Panels).

Watch the lesson

The video runs Draw Site Plan on AAAsite1 and then opens the command history (F2) so you can read the report: the grid and wall lines read from the record, the 32 wall runs drawn, the grid left as it was, and no slab.
