217 — Footing shapes

The thickening at the bottom of the panel where it meets the footing.

Warning

AutoCAD does this too — with a different control, not a Footing Step tile. There is no mpfs tile: it was removed from the VLX dialog layout (mp_dlg.dcl:100). But the CAPABILITY is there. In ConstructiVision for AutoCAD you make this by placing a rectangular Blockout against the bottom of the panel and using Snap-to-Edge to pull it to the left or right side — which notches the corner. That notch is the footing step.

Snap-to-Edge is a rectangle-only tile: choosing a Circular, Arched or Triangular blockout disables it (user manual, Blockout Shape). So keep the shape rectangular.

So use this lesson for the cv-web control, and use the Blockout + Snap-to-Edge route in AutoCAD. Everywhere else in this series the two products match; the two products reach it by different routes, the other being Top steps. Tracked as CV-2037.

Note

This lesson also exists in the browser. Work it in ConstructiVision on the web — same steps, same values, so you can follow either and end up with the same panel.

Where it is

Program Options → Footing Shapes. Cap in the title: Footing Shapes (2 max).

The bottom edge, as the top edge had its own pair

Top Profile and Top Steps describe what happens at the top of the panel. This is the same question at the bottom: the panel does not simply stop — it thickens into a haunch where it bears.

Two per panel, so a panel can carry a different footing condition at each end.

Why it is not just a dimension

A footing shape is geometry the panel is cast with, so it belongs to the panel drawing and the takeoff, not to the site plan. Get it wrong and the panel is cast wrong — this is not a setting-out detail that can be adjusted on site.

No presets, and by now you can predict that

Like dock levelers, blockouts and top steps, there is no size palette. A footing haunch is set by the foundation design.

Seven feature dialogs in, the rule has not broken once: presets exist only where standard sizes exist.

What to take away

Two per panel, one for each bearing condition, sized by the foundation and not by a catalogue. It is cast geometry, so it has to be right before the pour.
